MonkeyBeat 47: My Elephant Lamp
I think the heat melted my mind while recording this one. I start out pretty much sharp and on top of announcing the music being played. However, about 45 minutes into it I seem to mess up even the simplest of band names and song titles. Make sure you follow what is printed below, not your brain dead announcer, on this one.All an all the music on here makes a great soundtrack to a hot summer day.
Songs played:
- The Wildhearts - Zeen Requiem
- Jim Jones Revue - High Horse
- Gunsmoke - Nothing Left To Say
- Richmond Fontaine - The Gits
- The Ruiners - Happy Birthday Bitch!
- The Makers - She's Going Under
- Question Mark & The Mysterians - Don't Give It Up Now
- The Monks - Monk Time (Live in Berlin 2006)
- The Hard-Ons - Pretend It's Vanilla
- Visqueen - Lovely Guilty
- Ken Stringfellow & The Disciplines - No Vacancy
- Gorevette - Nothings Gonna Stop Me
- The Untamed Youth - Interview/Mailbox Jamboree
- The Mummies - Victim of Curcumstances
- Hoodoo Gurus - What's In It For Me? (Live)
- The Wildhearts' track I played can be downloaded here
- While you're waiting on the new Jim Jones Revue CD to come out, check out their session for Daytrotter
- Gunsmoke posted the link to download their new album (for whatever you feel it's worth) at their homepage
- The Gits documentary I mentioned is available on Netflix (DVD & streaming) or can be bought at Amazon
- Question Mark & The Mysterians are still going strong, and recently played Ponderosa Stomp Detroit Breakdown at Lincoln Center. The performance from that show and an out-of-this-world interview with ? were broadcast (and archived) on WFMU's Music To Spazz By with Dave the Spazz
- If you need more The Untamed Youth (who doesn't?), Deke-O-Rama hipped me that (4-camera with soundboard audio!) videos of The Untamed Youth and Deke Dickerson with The Modern Sounds from this years' show at El Sol in Madrid have been posted on Ustream by Beringola
- "Victim of Circumstances" was originally recorded by Roy Junior.
- The Hoodoo Gurus' track I played came from a recent session they did at Triple M. Video of it can be seen here. The original version of the song can be found on their latest album "Purity of Essence"
Those who are having trouble finding the show can download it directly via this link
